Kinto Sol Celebrates Their Recent Billboard Award

The Milwaukee-based group Kinto Sol has been taking the U.S. Spanish Rap scene by storm since their debut album "Del Norte Al Sur" dropped back in 2000. Over the last few years the group has been working hard to continue the growing momentum in Latino Hip-Hop left behind by the first generation of Spanish language artists, specifically Tiro de Gracia (Chile), Sindicato Argentino del Hip Hop (Argentina) and Control Machete (Mexico). Many have come to label Kinto Sol as a Mexican protest group, although their music has also developed in other areas and subjects taking them to commercial cross-over success that few have been able to accomplish in the United States. Now eight years and four albums later Kinto Sol is finding themselves at the helm of the Rap en Espanol movement.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards, which were handed out in Miami, Florida on April 7th through the 10th presented Kinto Sol with Billboard’s first "Latin Rap / Hip-Hop Album of the Year Award" for the group's fourth effort "Los Hijos Del Maiz", a critically acclaimed project and their Univision Records album debut. Over the years Kinto Sol has developed into much more than just a Spanish Rap group and their award proves just that. Following in the footsteps of many Hip-Hop icons, Kinto Sol are bringing more than just music to the table, but also strong and positive messages in their lyrics. Kinto Sol are not only entertainers, but commentators providing refection and insight on subjects like love, wisdom, and cultural pride through rhymes and music that has uplifted and still inspires legions of fans not only in the United States, but anywhere there are young Spanish speaking rap fans.

DJ Payaback Garcia, El Chivo, and Skribe of Kinto Sol

Skribe, El Chivo, and DJ Payback Garcia are able to transmit emotion and pride that comes through in their lyrics and have resulted in an original and powerful sound. Their passion has kept them going for more than 13 years in their musical careers, not only earning them a reputation in the streets but becoming living proof that if you believe in hard work you can accomplish your goals. Kinto Sol also has a vision of a super group as Skribe shared with BrownPride.com last year, he explains that in order for Spanish Hip-Hop to become such a force that it can not be denied by the mass media outlets the best of the best Spanish emcee's need to join forces and unit into one solo project, "That way, if they deny one, they are denying all of us…"

According to a recent press release sent out by Univision Records a few weeks back, Kinto Sol is locked in their studio working on the finishing touches of their follow up production titled "Carcel De Suenos". The new album is set to be released on Tuesday, June 24Th of this year, 2008. We here at BrownPride.com in conjunction with Firme Clothing would like to both congratulate Kinto Sol on their Billboard Award and wish them the best on their feature projects.
