Profetas - Evolucion | BP Music Video
Colombia has always had a special place within Latin music and has had a major impact on the international music scene. Their music is an expression of Colombian Cultures which contains diverse genres both traditional and modern, according to geographic regions. Although it is frequent to find different musical styles in the same region, but perhaps no other music is best identified with Colombia music culture as Cumbias.
In the mid to late 80’s Hip-Hop started to make its move into Latin America, having major impact in countries like Chile, El Salvador, Argentina and Mexico. Colombia was and is no different and in recent years has given birth to many important urban acts like Tres Coronas and Macko.
In 1997 a group named Profetas exploded into the urban movement of Colombia. A duo formed by Antombo Langangui a Central-African singer living in Colombia and vocal leader of the group, and Pablo Fortaleza an African-Colombian emcee. The group plays with traditional African sounds; the group has also been influenced by Latin Music, African-Colombian and African-Caribbean sounds such as Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall adding to their outstanding Hip-Hop flow, delivery, and energy, making Profetas one of the most attractive and innovating groups in South America.
The group has taken their music through squares and parks all over Colombia. They were also invited to participate in the Fete de la Musique also known as World Music Day concert held by the French Alliance of Medellin, the Dance Hall Night of the Reggae Festival in Colombia, the Rastazo, and the Hip Hop al Parque festival in Bogota.
Profetas have been seen touring and working with many renowned artists like Mad Lion (New York), Alika y La Nueva Alianza (Argentina), Pablo Molina formerly of Todos Tus Muertos (Argentina), Afu-Ra (New York), Le Front Verval (France), Raszcals (Canada), DJ Will (Germany) and crossing musical genres, from Hip-Hop to Ska, Reggae and traditional Colombian music.
