THE SHORT EXPLANATION:

With great sadness, we're informing you that Wednesday May 31st will be our last day of business here at our store Anahuak kalli. We would also like to thank you, our family/community for all your support and love. Its been a great opportunity/experience to be able to outreach to our communtiy and build a home for us all, albeit short, the time has come for us to move out and continue our venture as Anahuak. For 8 years we've been a mobile business, "pochtekas", spreading culture, knowledge, and love all over Anahuak. In the next few months we will be visiting Chicago, Colorado, Arizona decolonizing and spreading love. Although financially we are not capable to open another kalli any time soon, we hope that in the near future we can revisit opening up our next Anahuak kalli.

The causes of us moving from our current location is because Mama's Hot Tamales has decided not to renew our initial 6 month lease. They have explained to us that they are planning to expand their restaurant operations, and that the remodeling efforts will begin within our current store space. This decision was apparently determined by the IURD (Institute for Urban Redevelopment), the non-profit body who oversee the operation of Mama's Hot Tamales. If you have any comments or questions for the IURD you can reach them at their website at IURD.org. You can also reach Mama (Sandy) at 213-487-7474.

Ultimately, it deeply disappoints us to hear the news, after so much effort on ourpart as well as the efforts of our anahuak family to succeed but we believe EVERYTHING happens for a reason, in the spirit of ometeotl. We as anahuak, have worked round the clockand invest tremondousl amounts of time, energy, money to open up the store sustain it and we didn't think that we would have only 6 months to make our mark here in MacArthur Park. We were expecting and hoping that our efforts will be suitable enough to expand our lease to the end of the year.

We anahuak would love to thank everyone who have made our dream a reality, in addition we would like to thank everyone supported our efforts to succeed here at your Anahuak kalli.

Tlazokamatli, to all artists, community members, family, and friends. Once again tlazokamatli for the opportunity.

Anahuak Kalli
